The Cake Boss (Buddy Valastro)

I have always looked up to people who can cook delicious and being able to not only cook but turn the food into a work of art is a talent that I will forever be jealous of. Buddy Valastro, more commonly known as "The Cake Boss" is an Italian American baker and owner of "Carlos Bake Shop". He also has a show on National Television that feautres his shop and the cakes he makes for big events. He is one of the most popular artists in this creative field due to not only his television show but because he takes his art to a whole new level. His bakery specializes in making creative cakes for incredibly large events. From Birthday parties, to charity events, to store openings, the Cake Boss is always preparing something exquisite and unique.
Born in 1977 in Little Ferry New Jersey, Bartolo "Buddy" Valastro Jr. was exposed to baking at a young age due to his family ownership of Carlos Bake Shop set in Hoboken NJ. When he turned 17, his father died and Buddy was left to run the shop.  After Buddy began running the shop, it became the focus of the show Cake Boss that launched his career and inspired thousands of people across the country to journey to his shop just to view and taste some of his work. Today he employs over 100 people, most of them his extended family. As a father, husband, store owner, mentor to ne bakers, and star of a reality TV show, Buddy has many responsibilities but it is easy to see the creativity that he brings everything he does.
Buddy never attended a cooking school and so everything he learned was either through observation of his father, or just something he taught himself. In the show, he is always up for a challenge and so he agrees to make super detailed and life-sized cakes. Each episodes features an event that the shop is hired to make a cake for, it illustrates the detailed process that the bakers go through when making food for hundreds of people.
Some people wonder how it is that Buddy still makes all the cakes taste delicious when they are feeding so many people. He explains that each of his signature recipes ensures that no matter how much of the food he makes, it will always be delicious.
Because he employs so many family members, Buddy has taken on the role of being a mentor to the aspiring bakers he hires. "Working with him in his place of expertise is an honor" says Anthony, a long time employee and relative.
The greatest thing about Buddy is that he is able to bring his own personal style to each thing he makes. No matter what event or what kind of cake he is making, his creativity is always evident in his work. I think that he is perfect example of how creativity can be channeled through anything and that he will continue to grow in his business and in his creative field.
