Photography

When I first learned about the assignment I knew instantly that I was going to choose photography. It has such a broad spectrum of different types of photography. Some different types are aerial, candid, documentary, fashion, forensic, nature, vernacular and so many more. Not only is it interesting but also it is a relatively easy way to express yourself. I find it to be an interesting topic because people are constantly taking photos, whether they are professional photos or just photos for Instagram or on Facebook. Obviously I am not a professional photographer, but I think that it is a very interesting and something that I can see myself being interested in learning more about.

The idea of photography was first brought up in the 5th and 4th century B.C.E. From then, there were many different discoveries of things such as camera obscuara, pinhole camera, and other different kinds of techniques that related to photography. Joseph Nicephore Niepce, a French inventor, produced the first photo created from chemical photography in 1822. Henry Fox Talbot invented the first negative to positive prints. In 1841 the process was perfected and called calotype.  In this process Talbot used negative photos and negative paper and made contact prints by reversing the light and shadows to get a detailed photo. In 1935 Kodachrome came out with color film that could capture red, green, and blue color components.

Some other cameras include polaroid, disposable cameras, and digital cameras. The polaroid camera was invented by Edwin Herbert Land, who used physics to create a one step process that provided with instant photos. In November of 1984, the first polaroid camera was sold to the public. In 1986, Fuji produced the first disposable camera. In 1981 Sony produced the first camera that instead of using film, used charge-coupled device for imaging, called the Sony Mavica. However the Mavica was not fully digital. In 1991 Kodak produced the DCS 100 which was the first digital single lens reflex camera that was commercially available. Digital Cameras eventually began outselling film cameras and the production of film cameras is almost non-existent today. Mostly all cameras today are digital. We also have gained the technology of having cell phones with built in camera photos. Throughout the years the cameras became increasingly better and are now very good quality cameras. Photography is such a popular form of art and creativity. There are no photos that are the same.
