If you follow anything in the golf world today, you would
know that Tiger Woods in currently one of the best plays and possibly one of
the best players of all time. Tiger Woods has been able to accomplish things
that many other professionals can only dream of. He is a genius in the game of
golf and has had one of the biggest impacts on the sport.
However Tiger Woods fame and glory all seems so magical,
none of it came with the endless hours of hard work and dedication. Tiger Woods
spent ridiculous amounts of time as a child perfecting his game, which formed
him into the champion that he is today. Many people may not know this but Tiger
isn’t his real name, he was born by the name of Eldrick Woods in December of
1975. He was born in Cypress, California. His parents Earl and Kultida Woods
both had a strong love for the game of golf and pushed their son to success at
a young age. Tiger Woods was his main coach and taught Tiger everything he
knows today. Even from the age of three people could tell that Tiger was
something special. Tiger was featured on the show on the popular television
show That's Incredible! Soon after tiger
went on this show he was already being proclaimed as a prodigy. Tiger went to
Stanford University to pursue his dream of becoming a professional golfer.
During his career at Stanford he won the NCAA for championship for his solo
performance. Even though he went to Stanford he ended up never graduating and
left after two years to become a pro. Tiger Woods joined the PGA in 1996 and
never looked back. Just eight months after joining the tour he went on to win
the most prestigious golf tournament, The Masters. Tiger is the youngest player
to ever win this tournament and had an unforgettable performance winning by
twelve strokes.
Without a doubt Tiger has had the biggest impact on golf out
of any other professionals. He has expanded the growth of golf in people with
different ethnic backgrounds. His creativity for particular practice routines
and innovative ideas have led to many great things. Tiger’s impact on the game
of golf is unlike no other players. A study was conducted to figure out the
impact on the economy and golf when Tiger was not playing golf due to his
scandal. Between the months of November 25 and December 13, companies such as Gatorade,
Nike and Electronic Arts stock prices fell 2.3%, costing shareholders $12
billion. Also Nielson ratings showed that viewer ship is fifty percent higher when
Tiger is playing a tournament.
Tiger has achieved an incredible 79 tour wins and 14 major
wins. The only other person that has more tour wins is Sam Snead with 82 and
the only other person that has more major wins is Jack Nicklaus with 18. Both
of these players are known as some of golf’s players and have achieved an
unheard amount of wins.
